Rated as one of the top beaches in the USA! South Padre Island's white sand and turquoise-blue surf aren't commonly associated with Texas beaches, but they define this 34 miles long, and a half-mile island at the Lone Star State's southernmost tip. The famous Laguna Madre Bay laps South Padre's western shore, and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico roll in on the east. A temperature of 70 degrees or higher most months keeps the beaches packed well before and after the summer schedule of other vacation spots.
South Padre Island is renowned for massive March spring break crowds, South Padre Island's beaches have also become popular year-round destinations for families and retirees. The dunes and grassy areas are considered to be as good as it gets among birding enthusiasts and sand-castle artists, South Padre is a world famous spot for windsurfing. Many companies rent equipment for fishing, parasailing, jet-skiing and other water sports along both bay and gulf beaches.
